Nearly 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland woke up without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the area, generating wind gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Residents reported substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

At the height on Sunday, more than 28k energy customers in the state were lacking electricity.

Damp conditions were expected to linger along large portions of Queensland's east this week as a atmospheric system continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.
Tuesday was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent storm activity expected across different parts of both areas.
