The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
