The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Call
The president said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that educators desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Policy Changes
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the government to pause asylum applications and halt issuing visas to possessors of travel documents.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he informed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
