A whistleblower has disclosed an official investigation that British authorities failed to secure confidential technology permitting the militant group to locate Afghans who collaborated with allied troops.

Data Breach Puts Thousands at Risk

Person A, known as Person A, stated that individuals impacted by the security lapse were advised to relocate and change their contact details to ensure their safety from militant forces.

Lawmakers are currently examining the Conservative government's response of a massive breach of personal details involving almost nineteen thousand Afghans who had asked to move to the United Kingdom to flee the regime.

Data Disclosure Was Discovered

An electronic document including confidential details, such as names, addresses and sometimes relative details, was accidentally leaked by a staff member employed at special operations center in February 2022.

The leak came to light months later, when identities of multiple applicants who had applied to settle in the UK appeared on Facebook.

Taliban Capabilities

Many believe there's a misunderstanding that militant forces do not have similar capabilities that allied forces use,” Person A informed lawmakers.

“We left it all behind in Afghanistan; they possess it. If they have mobile details, they can trace your exact position. That's precisely what the unit achieved.”

Under inquiry about regarding if authorities owned advanced decryption, Person A declared: “They possess all resources.”

Consequences of the Data Breach

Early investigations provided to the committee suggested that approximately fifty relatives and colleagues of individuals impacted by the breach had been executed.

A legal restriction concerning the leak was implemented in August 2023 and restricted all details concerning it from being made public until mid-2025.

Protective Actions

“We advised that they moved where feasible and altered their phone numbers. Those were the primary information that, if the Taliban obtained these details, would cause them being traced,” she said.

Disputed Conclusions

Person A contested that an official review performed by a retired civil servant had been incorrect to state that the possession of the records by the Taliban was “minimally impact present danger”.

“The crucial point is that these individuals are not standing up to the Taliban; they live secretly. The primary issue involves their previous employment.”

Person A described horrific violence suffered by at-risk Afghans, comprising electrocution, waterboarding, and physical abuse.

“There are cases of four-year-old children who have had bones crushed to try to get relatives to disclose hiding places,” she testified.
