Soccer Expert Chris Sutton Faces Off Against Singer Olly Murs in Top Flight Forecasts
Arsenal's 10-game winning streak came to an end by the Black Cats before the global break, but will the English top division leaders bounce back against local foes Tottenham this weekend?
"{I feel like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a plan for this game," remarked soccer specialist Chris Sutton.
"Frank will try to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating finest this season - but Mikel Arteta's team typically still manage to win."
The analyst is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against artificial intelligence, readers and a variety of guests.
In the twelfth round, he faces singer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United supporter.
The singer's new record, the new release, is available on Friday.
Football and Family Life
Murs is a skilled footballer as well as a accomplished artist and has been a featured player of multiple charity football games over time - but he is not intending a serious return as a footballer.
"{I recently played in a benefit game the other evening for a mate of mine," he explained. "The side was losing 3-1 when I came off in the 60th minute, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you want!
"I continue to love football, but I hurt my knee a few years ago and it even now hasn't fully recovered. I wish I could play more but the uncertainty of the sport means it's too risky for me in my career to do it properly again.
"Plus I am 41 now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am preparing for the moment that my child or boy decides to play instead."
The singer and his wife Amelia Tank have two children, their daughter and their son, and he is prepared to emulate his dad by becoming their coach.
"I won't force football on our children but I've previously told my wife that if they happen to get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will likely be coaching their Saturday football team," he said.
"I observed my relatives play a lot, and I really got into it, and I obviously owned a soccer team for a while too.
"My dad coached with us when I was a kid, which is likely where I inherited it. He coached our side for several years and had a wonderful time with it. That might be the future for me as well, and I am excited to it!"
Top Division Predictions
Saturday, 22 November
- Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT
Chelsea might have to wait a bit longer for their star's return from injury but their attack is now stronger with Pedro and Delap both back fit.
I still think this game will be fairly close, however. Burnley are well organised and their only at Turf Moor losses so far have been against the Reds and the Gunners.
This smells of a one-all tie to me, but I am actually going to go with the London side to win narrowly for what would be their third league win in a row.
Sutton's prediction: 1-2
Olly's prediction: The Blues will be superior. 1-3
Artificial intelligence's outlook: 0-2
- Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT
The Cherries have lost their previous couple games - albeit both of them were away - but they got absolutely spanked by Aston Villa last time out which surprised me.
On the other hand, the Hammers secured two in a row before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at their stadium, they appear strong again.
The Hammers' sole away win this campaign came at Nottingham Forest in the summer, when their manager Nuno was previously Forest coach.
So, what exactly do I go with here - will it be West Ham extending their streak under Nuno, or the home side bouncing back?
I am going to choose the Cherries, because I think what happened against Aston Villa was a blip.
Sutton's prediction: 2-0
Olly's outlook: Bournemouth are performing strongly but West Ham have picked up under their boss. 2-2
AI's prediction: 1-1
- Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT
The Bees were seen as one of the frontrunners for relegation before the season started, but they have impressed a several observers under Keith Andrews and are in good form with three wins in their past four matches.
A family member told me to get Brentford forward Igor Thiago in my fantasy soccer team a few weeks back and, guess what, I ignored the advice.
Thiago will probably score again on the weekend but I am nonetheless not going to select him or support the away side at Brighton's ground.
The Bees have not had much success on the road this term, and Brighton are consistently strong at home. The visitors will attempt to hit them on the break but I feel the home manager's team pose much more of a threat.
Sutton's forecast: 2-1
The singer's prediction: This could be a match where you think there is going to be a many scores but it in reality turns out to be rather tight. 1-1
AI's outcome: 2-1
- Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT
This is a huge game for Fulham, who have lost five of their last six matches.
Fulham have got lots of talent in their team but it nonetheless seems like they could be sucked into a drop zone battle.
Regarding the Black Cats, indeed they are the surprise package of the top flight campaign so far.
Their display in the two-all draw with Arsenal last time out was superb. We've not witnessed any other team rough up the North London side like that this season, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.
The sensible thing to do to back the visitors here, because they are clearly able of roughing the hosts up too and, the last time they were in west London, they beat Chelsea at the end of October.
However I am not choose that. Instead, I really need to carry on going against Sunderland with my forecasts. I am taking a lot of responsibility for their good results because they evidently enjoy to defy my predictions.
Looking at Fulham's at Craven Cottage record, the only team they have been defeated by is Arsenal. Marco Silva's team will be extremely desperate for a good outcome, so I am going to predict they will pick up three points.
The expert's prediction: 1-0
Olly's prediction: I know the visitors are performing strongly and also that Fulham are on a bad run... but they have nonetheless been decent at Craven Cottage this campaign. 2-0
AI's prediction: 2-0
- Anfield, 15:00 GMT
It is a tough fixture to call. Liverpool have suffered seven of their past 10 matches in all competitions, but might they be among the sides who benefit from the {international break|
