Former Doctor Charged with Assault Charges Against 38 Patients
Prosecutors report that a ex- doctor stands accused of carrying out assaults involving thirty-eight victims who were patients.
The Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – comprising some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.
A senior CPS official commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges follow what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents said the forty-five charges he is charged with:
- 15 counts of assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
