Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
