It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are all that remain for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their hitters to hold a record if never given the possibility.

In the end, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving a platform to deliver her newest gem.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her debut and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the case for championship match pressure. Others can counter with the test that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this performance was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it's been a frustrating experience because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts activate and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and after that the batsman was underway.

"A chance to take the field and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was dismissed her side needed 66 more at one run per ball - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the confidence to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if necessary, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing competing nations at this championship want to hear.

In recent days a feeling they will win from any position has grown stronger - this triumph succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she later said she wished she had played through the pain.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have postponed consideration of ending her career, this championship is likely to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as skipper.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
