Antony Price, Famed for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer behind some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."
His passing follows just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
