A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
